Legacy Reference: This collection of videos was originally recorded for the 2018 LCM Step 2 syllabus. While this specific exam cycle has concluded, these performances remain an excellent technical benchmark for students advancing through the preliminary stages of piano study.

Step 2 is where things start to get interesting. I put together this LCM Step 2 Piano reference gallery to give students a clear benchmark for what this level looks and sounds like in practice. These pieces introduce more coordination between the hands and more varied phrasing — while still keeping the focus firmly on solid foundational habits.

I’ve recorded the complete set of pieces for this level. Browse the full collection on my YouTube channel:

Advancing Beyond the Basics

Repertoire from the LCM Step 2 Piano syllabus is a great tool for developing more nuanced control at the keys. We move beyond simple unison playing and start exploring different articulations between the hands and longer melodic lines — small steps, but significant ones.

As the pieces get more demanding, keeping a relaxed physical approach becomes even more important. If you notice your hands tightening up, revisit my guide on the Drop and Grip technique. You can also go back to where it all starts with the Step 1 Reference Gallery.

A Note for Students

When you watch these videos, look beyond the notes. Watch the wrist preparation, the phrasing, the economy of movement — how the technique serves the music rather than getting in the way of it. If you have questions about fingering or specific technical challenges in any of these pieces, get in touch.
